Data & Democracy
Branding
THE CLIENT
OpenSecrets is the most comprehensive resource for campaign contributions, lobbying data and analysis available anywhere. And for other organizations and news media, OpenSecrets' exclusive data powers their online features tracking money in politics - counting cash to make change.
PROJECT GOALS
The Friendly team partnered with OpenSecrets to create a new brand guide specifically for the 2023 Convening themed “Data & Democracy,” that would build upon their existing brand.
MY ROLE
As design lead on this project, I started the process with a moodboards workshop with the OpenSecrets team to develop a concept for the overall brand. The final brand is bright and highlights overlapping organic shapes that mimic the roundedness of the OpenSecrets logo and represent the bipartisan nature of the organization. While maintaining the original blue and red shades, I brought in a new light purple, merging both colors. A new secondary font was introduced, adding to the existing OpenSecrets font suite.
THE WORK
The deliverables for this project were a logomark and its variations as well as a comprehensive brand guide, which includes mockups for the OpenSecrets team to build out any necessary materials for the conference.
