Biochar Fixes Carbon

Web Design
THE CLIENT
The International Biochar Initiative (IBI) provides a platform for fostering stakeholder collaboration, good industry practices, and environmental and ethical standards to support biochar systems that are safe and economically viable.

PROJECT GOALS
IBI sought to create a modernized website. Their previous site was outdated and overwhelming in content. The Friendly team worked to rebrand IBI and utilized the new brand in the new site design, with better organization and a contemporary feel.

MY ROLE
As the web designer for this project, my main goal was to distill the old and abundant information into digestible pieces, while maintaining the wealth of information and resources. Through sitemapping and wireframing we landed on a clear hierarchy of information with user-friendly navigation.

Design-wise, I achieved the primary objective to translate the newly developed brand into a functioning, interactive website. Inspired by the organic pattern created in the brand and logomark, rounded UI elements and pops of color added a modern touch.

THE WORK
The brand, as well as the website, brings the technical and the organic together. The site uses the graphic motif that visually represents the chemical compound of biochar as a flexible visual element framing content and images.
